Unleashing Entertainment: The New Roku Ultra Redefines Streaming

On the same day the new Google TV Streamer comes out, Roku is launching its latest streaming player. It costs $99.99, still has Dolby Vision and Atmos, and looks the same as before, but Roku says it has important upgrades inside.

The 2024 Ultra is now 30% faster than other Roku devices and has Wi-Fi 6, making it better than the Google TV Streamer, which uses Wi-Fi 5. Roku is on the same level as Apple TV but not as advanced as Amazon’s top Fire TV models, which offer Wi-Fi 6E. There’s also an Ethernet port for those who want a wired connection.

As an HDMI 2.1 streaming player, the Roku Ultra has Quick Media Switching, which lets you switch between different refresh rates or content smoothly on high-end TVs, according to Roku’s Paul Nangeroni in a blog post.

The Ultra comes with Roku’s best remote, the Voice Remote Pro. This remote has been improved with backlit buttons, USB-C charging, and new quick launch and live TV buttons. The quick launch feature lets you see your favorite apps and voice commands on your TV screen.

The 2024 Roku Ultra also uses smart technology to guess which app you will open next, making it faster to load your apps than ever before.

Roku is keeping its simple home screen while making some updates. It adds a “Kids & Family” section on the home screen. Content pages will now show thumbs-up and thumbs-down icons to help customize recommendations to your preferences. Also, the mobile remote app will include a feature that lets you swipe up to browse content when you’re not using the main controls.
