Apple’s iOS 18 is set to make stolen iPhones and their parts even more useless with a new feature called Activation Lock for parts. Here’s everything you need to know.
According to Beta Profiles on Twitter, with iOS 18, not only will your stolen iPhone’s logic board be locked to your Apple ID, but key parts like the battery, camera, and display, will be too. This means if a thief tries to strip your phone for parts, those components will be bricked and unusable without your credentials. The update will completely cut off the resale value of stolen iPhone parts.
Normally, iPhones have an Activation Lock for the entire device using the main logic board, but thieves have been able to profit by selling the other parts. iOS 18 changes this by ensuring the parts won’t work with other devices unless properly authorized.
This feature is expected to roll out with the release of iOS 18. Stay tuned here for more updates on iOS 18. And if you enjoyed this, Buy Us A Coffee!
