Customers nationwide may now get Frontier’s new 7-gig fiber internet service. At $309.99 per month, the 7-gig package is the fastest fiber plan currently offered by major carriers.
Currently, Frontier provides fiber internet service in the majority of the 25 states it covers, including Minnesota, California, Texas, Florida, New York, and others. Before, consumers in Frontier’s service region could only choose between the 2-gig and 5-gig plans; going forward, residents will have access to the 7-gig plan. The service includes an updated Wi-Fi 7 router, unlimited monthly bandwidth, and symmetrical 7Gbps upload and download speeds.
Strangely, even though Frontier was the first to bring out 7Gbps nationally (kind of), it’s not the most affordable really fast internet. The $150 per month 8Gbps service offered by Google Fiber is only accessible in a few areas, including Mesa, Arizona; San Antonio, Texas; and Salt Lake City, Utah. (Google is also testing a 20-gig package in some places for $250 per month.) Furthermore, Optimum offers an 8-gig plan for $300 per month, but it’s only available in the tristate area of New York.
Other ISPs are also growing their fiber services; AT&T is expanding the availability of its 5-gig plans throughout California, while Comcast is expanding the footprint of its gigabit-speed fiber network and introducing 2-gig upload and download speeds for cable internet.
Frontier’s new 7-gig fiber service, at $309.99 per month, is the fastest widely available option but comes at a premium compared to competitors like Google Fiber and Optimum. With other ISPs expanding their high-speed offerings, the competition in the fiber internet market is heating up.
