It’s been about 18 years ever since the launch of the PSP, and later 6 years after it, the PS Vita, so it’s definitely about time that we get a new Sony handheld, other than the PS Portal, which was merely a remote play device, and with the huge success of the PS Portal, it’s more than likely to be soon, and it looks exciting.
Handhelds have been seeing more success than ever with the rising success of Nintendo and Steamdeck, and plenty of companies out there have started releasing plenty of handhelds such as the ROG Ally X, which has been performing great in the market, and even Xbox is rumored to have a handheld currently getting worked on, so it’s about time for Sony to get back into a market they’re already familiar with.
And they’re not just speculations, but we also have a word regarding the matter from Tom Henderson, who claimed that it was a highly discussed topic at Gamescom
What Would it Change?
The previous handhelds by Sony have been a great success, but they only had 1 issue that the new handheld might fix, which is the release of major games, one of the greatest factors of Sony’s success over the years has been the amazing titles you get to experience there, so if they were able to integrate those titles into handheld so that they’re playable remotely would be great, being able to play titles such as The Last of US, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima remotely would be a revolutionary idea, and should be able to see great success.
However, as great as it sounds, it is improbable, cause to do that, they’ll have to reduce the game resolution, etc, which is locked by Sony, so to that, they’d have to develop a completely new edition of the game that would be compatible with the handheld, which is very unlikely to happen, and puts us a in a place where we don’t know whether we’ll get the PlayStation library, or end up with the same system as the previous handheld, which had their specific games.
All in all, it seems exciting so far, and we can’t wait for more information regarding the matter. As always, stay tuned for when that happens and we’ll immediately update you here at Techexposed, and if you wanna show your support, you can always buy us a coffee.
