Google Library Retiring
Google Photos‘ library tab is going away, as the company is launching Collections, a brand-new location that promises to make “finding content easier than ever.” All of your albums, both private and shared by other users, are kept together in collections. You can also create new folders for people, pets, papers, and locations.
The modifications are most likely made in preparation for the launch of Google’s Ask Photos assistant, which CEO Sundar Pichai announced will happen this summer and is powered by Gemini. According to 9to5Google, a list of recommended alternatives such as screenshots, selfies, and menus has taken the place of the previous picture tiles in the search tab’s revamp.
Access to Collections
All Android and iOS Google Photos users are now able to access the Collections view, which replaces the library tab but has the same bookshelf-style icon. However, it can take a few weeks for the Collections view to appear on all devices.
The Collections page allows users to navigate between several perspectives, such as “All,” “Shared with me,” and “My albums,” by tapping on Albums. “Favourites” and “Trash” folders will be shown at the top, and according to Google, the other two tiles “may rotate based on the items you navigate to the most.” Following concerns over the location, users’ locked folders will no longer be offered at the top of the Collections display.
The tools inside the Utilities folder are just being transferred; the folder itself is being deleted. For instance, scrolling to the bottom of Collections now reveals the option to create a Locked Folder. The “+” icon offers options for importing photos and creating albums, collages, and highlight movies; on the other hand, clicking your Google Photos account profile is now necessary to perform tasks like managing photo frames and freeing up space on the device.
