The Xbox 360 store is closing today, after being open for business for over 19 years. The countdown to the ultimate shutdown has started. This implies that in a few hours, you won’t be able to purchase Xbox 360 games or DLC from the market. Those who have already paid for the content can still play and redownload them, though.
Major Nelson, as Larry Hryb, celebrated the event on X, stating that it was a “pleasure sharing all the thousands of marketplace sales and updates I’ve given over the years.” Hryb departed Xbox a little over a year ago, having worked for Microsoft for 22 years, most recently as senior director of corporate communications.
Microsoft gave customers about a year’s notice when it announced in August 2023 that the Xbox 360 shop would be shutting on this day, July 29. You will also be unable to watch your material on Xbox 360 devices since the Microsoft Movies and TV app will no longer work on those platforms.
Microsoft did state that Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com will continue to sell any backward-compatible Xbox 360 (and original Xbox) titles. The availability of online multiplayer support for Xbox 360 titles is contingent upon the publishers and developers and remains unaffected by the closure of the shop.
Regarding Xbox, the most recent major console and cloud update was released last month and included mouse and keyboard support for cloud gaming, new backdrop customisation, and console subscription management.
