Meta has unveiled its latest innovation – the Meta Quest 3. Set to launch this fall, the Meta Quest 3 claims to have impressive upgrades over its predecessor, the Quest 2. With a next-gen Qualcomm chipset, better display, better cameras, and it’s now 40 percent thinner.
This announcement comes ahead of Apple’s WWDC, where Apple is expected to mark its entry into the VR space with a product that has clearly sent companies like Meta scrambling to put their new products to market. Meta is not the only one doing this, Lenovo said its ThinkReality VRX headset is now shipping.
The new headset features a new controller, 2x the graphic performance, and the headset will also be backward compatible with the Quest 2 library.
it also features an updated design with three cameras on the front that will let users immerse themselves in a digital world but still engage with reality.
Meta stated that the launch is set to take place later this year at its annual Connect event on September 27 and will cost 499$ at launch.
The good news for people who still want to buy the Quest 2 is that Meta will be dropping the price of headset to 299$ and it was just confirmed by Meta CTO Andrew ‘Boz’ Bosworth that they will keep supporting the Quest 2 for a while.
In fact, Meta announced in a blog post that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro will receive a new software update, The company claims the software update will see up to a 26 percent CPU performance increase, up to a 19 percent GPU increase for the Quest 2, and up to 11 percent for the Quest Pro.
