Apple’s WWDC 22 had something for everyone spanning from long-awaited features to things we thought we never needed. So let’s recap everything that they announced.
iOS 16
The first thing announced in WWDC 22 was iOS 16 and it was focused on the Lock Screen it will come with a new customizable lock screen with a new depth effect, widgets, live wallpapers, live activities, and notifications.
iOS 16 will also introduce a library for family photos called the ‘iCloud Shared Photo Library’. It will be a separate library on iCloud where up to six family members can choose to share existing photos from their personal libraries.
Messages has been updated with new features such as editing or recalling sent messages, recovering recently deleted messages, and marking conversations as unread. Not to mention, SharePlay is coming to Messages.
The Mail app was also updated to include new features like schedule, recall, remind later, follow-up suggestions, and more.
iOS 16 is set to release in the fall on the iPhone 8 and above.
iPadOS 16
The second thing announced in WWDC 22 was iPadOS 16 and it brings new features built around the M1 iPads. New features include Stage Manager, which will enable desktop-class multitasking with multiple overlapping windows, The Freeform app for people to brainstorm together on a flexible canvas and all iOS 16 features.
iPadOS 16 will also release in the fall.
watchOS 9
The third thing announced in WWDC 22 was watchOS 9 it brings new watch faces, and a bunch of new features such as an updated Workout app, with new metrics, views, and training experiences inspired by high-performing athletes. It will also bring sleep stages to the Sleep app, and ‘AFib History’ a feature to provide insights into a user’s condition. It will also include a medication app to help keep track of your medications and remind you to take it when needed.
It will be available in the fall on the Series 4 and above.
macOS Ventura
The last thing announced in WWDC 22 was macOS Ventura and it has a few new but important features added to the OS this year like Stage Manager, and a host of new continuity features such as Continuity Camera, and Hand Off for FaceTime Calls.
It will be available in the fall to all Macs 2017 and above.
